I originally found Big Vegan: More than 350 Recipes: No Meat/No Dairy, All Delicious by Robin Asbell when searching for a gift for my most vegan of friends. Among the small but remarkably varied selection of cookbooks at Parnassus Books in Nashville, popped out the lovely Big Vegan cover. It had to be the one. After receiving it, my friend remarked that she felt it was the most complete vegan cookbook that she’d yet seen. This was over a year ago and before I ever thought I’d live without cheese.
Last week and in light of my new food ventures, I remembered our conversation and ordered the book. It is glorious. It is not only huge, it begins with a nice survey of vegan nutrition, “Pantry Staples,” and moves through the gamut of meal categories. Really, look it up (click book cover for Amazon link… psst, it’s gotta Kindle version, too). Anyway, this is a great collection of not only delicious recipes but techniques to help you vary your cooking experiences.
