5 Cool Spices for a Hot Day by Spice Sherpa

So, it is hot outside.  And, well, let’s be honest… we are just at the beginning of the hot.  Now is the perfect time to think about ways to flavor food to help our bodies cope with the heat.  According to Spice Sherpa, there are 5 spices that you might want to make staples in your summer diet.  Think about making iced tea with any combination of the following:

  • Backyard mint can grow with very little attention in most back yards during the summer. Be careful, it can take over. So, use it often, throughout the summer. Image courtesy of satit_srihin / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

    Mint.

  • Basil.
  • Fennel.
  • Coriandor.
  • Tarragon.

My mother used mint, which grew wild in our back yard, in iced tea, lemonade, and fresh green salads.  More, how about a basil limeade, or a fresh ginger, mint, lemon-limeade?

Make an iced tea out of fennel and coriander.  Please visit your local Indian grocer for fresh, amazing bags of dried fennel and coriander.

Add tarragon to salad dressings and roasted veggies (or roasted veggies on salad greens).
